Estimating Total Cost from an Oopbuy Spreadsheet
To estimate a full cost, break the total into four budget lines in your Oopbuy spreadsheet: item price, domestic shipping, international shipping and any applicable fees. Keeping them separate shows which part is really driving the total, so you can adjust one line instead of guessing at the whole.
The four budget lines
Each line answers a different question. The item price is what the product costs. Domestic shipping covers movement within the origin region. International shipping covers the export leg. Applicable fees depend on the route and can include service charges; they are not the same as US sales tax, which is set separately by state and locality and should not be invented here.
| Line | Sample budget | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Item price | Sample $50 | Per item, in USD |
| Domestic shipping | Sample $6 | If the seller charges for it |
| International shipping | Sample $22 | Depends on weight and route |
| Applicable fees | Sample $0 to $10 | Only if the route states them |
| Estimated total | Sample $78 to $88 | Refresh before deciding |
All figures above are examples that show structure only. They are not real prices, fees or tax rates.
How to build the estimate
- Enter each item price on its own row.
- Add domestic shipping if the seller charges it.
- Estimate international shipping from weight and route.
- Add fees only if the current terms mention them.
- Total the lines, then refresh the numbers with current terms.
- One row per item, no lump sums.
- Shipping lines separated from item price.
- Sample numbers clearly labeled.
- US sales tax left out unless a real rate applies.
- The estimate refreshed before you decide.
Shipping charges and fees change and vary by route. Confirm current terms when you are ready to ship, and keep your estimate labeled as an estimate.
Get the weight side right first with parcel weight and size, and treat any savings carefully using comparing coupon savings before checkout.
Quick answers
Should I include sales tax?
Only if a confirmed rate applies to your purchase. Do not invent a rate, since US tax is set by state and locality.
Why keep shipping separate?
Because shipping often drives the total. Seeing it alone tells you whether the items or the shipping cost more.
How often should I refresh the estimate?
Every time terms could have changed, and always before you make a final decision.
